This is my first time at Lynck. What should I do?
Especially for new members, Lynck has written a 5-step plan. This is located here (please hold SHIFT when clicking; a new window will be opened).

How do I make changes to my own home page at Lynck?
When you are logged in (by clicking 'login' in the top right corner), you should click on 'settings' (again top right corner). A settings page will appear. If you are a first time user, this page will look quite empty. It is best to go through each 'block', i.e. make your pick for every part of your home page. Choose a search engine of your liking, provide information about your favorite links and choose your favorite RSS feeds. Also, it is advisable to pick a quicksearch option. But it's all up to you: you don't want any links? leave them empty. Just 2 RSS feeds? That's also no problem.

How do I set up my browser to open Lynck as my home page?
How to set Lynck as your home page depends on the type of browser you currently use.
For Internet Explorer users: click on this icon -> to set Lynck as your home page. This icon is also visible on your home page (upper right corner).

For Mozilla Firefox users: please go to Extra -> Options -> General -> Home page
Type the web address of Lynck in the home page field: www.lynck.eu (See this picture)

How about links (bookmarks)... Any tips?
Many people face the same problem: having a favorites list which contains too many links, many of them are almost never used. Lynck decided to provide people with space to put their most valuable links, readily available on your home page. The links will always stay on their own place (unlike in the favorites list of your browser), which will help navigate through them. Plus, once you log in on another computer, these links are immediately available. Lynck saves you time, and unneccessary clicks.

TIP: Most login screens of secure services, like Paypal or your online bank account, have login screen linked to a static address. This means that such an address could be used in Lynck. Bij websites waar u moet inloggen kunt u het adres (de url) van dit inlogscherm als link opgeven!

For example: Suppose you want to add Paypal to your set of links. Do not use http://www.paypal.com, but try to use the url of the login screen. This is often found if you go to the login screen and look at your browser's address bar. In the case of Paypal, it says: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_login-run

Another example is the inbox of Hotmail. If you have logged in on hotmail (and haven't used the 'log out' option), you can use the address of your inbox. It will look something like this: http://by107fd.bay107.hotmail.msn.com/cgi-bin/HoTMaiL?curmbox

Be careful, though. not all sites provide this address automaticly, and are session dependent (thus will work only once).

How do I provide a name tag to my links?
This is quite easy: just use the textfield next to your link, in the settings page. However, often this is not even neccessary. Lynck will tag your links automatically if you leave those fields blank. It will leave out "www." and ".eu" or ".com", etc... This will often result in a tag which is usable enough. However, if you are not satisfied with this, you can make appropriate changes in the settings page. The settings button is situated on the top right corner of your home page, next to your log in button.

Be sure to click on save changes, on the bottom of the settings page, to save all changes made. You will automatically be taken back to your home page.

What are RSS-feeds?
RSS stand for Really Simple Syndication, and it basically stands for a computerlanguage related to bringing news dynamically to your browser or a newsreader (RSSreader). RSSreaders are increasingly becoming more popular among internet users. However, Lynck incorporates the newsreader into your very own homepage, which means that newsreaders are essentially obsolete for most users. RSSfeeds are in essence parts of external sites, in the form of a table of contents. It will provide you with the latest headlines. If you click on one of the headlines, you will be taken to the external website and the relevant news topic is shown.

Lynck highly recommends to incorporate at least two feeds in your home page. Lynck provides an extensive list of feeds, on various topics. Be sure to scroll through the list, before you make your pick. Don't like the feeds you've chosen? Feeds can be changed in the settings page.

How do I make use of RSS feeds?
You can choose your favorite feeds from a list, which have been found by Lynck to be the most commonly used. Please click here to see the current list of feeds. Our feeds are arranged by topics, ranging from general and national news, to gossip and film reviews, to technology and science news.

Be sure to scroll through the list, before you make your pick. Don't like the feeds you've chosen? Feeds can be changed in the settings page. The maximum amount of active feeds per home page is 6 and per feed you will get 7 headlines. Each rss feed is captured and save on the server of Lynck every 15 minutes.

TIP: If you pick a news feed twice in your settings page, Lynck will recognize this and put 2 times 7 headlines of the same feed on your home page (where available).

Which RSS feeds are available at Lynck?

My favorite RSS feed is not in the list... Now what?
Lynck provides over 150 feeds. However, it is possible that your favorite feed does not appear in the list. Please contact us, and we will try to add the feed to our system. To contact us, refer to the contact page (found in the right hand corner of our site).

Some RSS feeds provide time stamps, and some don't. Why's that?
Not all sites provide their feeds in the same way. This is one of the reasons why we currently do not have an option to let you provide your own feeds. Because of these discrepancies, some feeds will not have time stamps, and some will. Also, some time stamps are put on 00:00, which also cannot be helped. It is part of the feed itself, and cannot be edited by us.

My RSS feeds look messed up. What should I do?
Please bear with us. Lynck monitors the feeds it provides (yes, the webmasters have Lynck as their home page), and will probably detect mistakes in feeds. These mistakes are the result of directly capturing the feeds from external (read: out of our control) websites. If your home page continues to look messed up because of the feed, please contact us. To contact us, refer to the contact page (found in the right hand corner of our site).

Sometimes, we observe weird symbols in the newsfeeds. This is the result of the use of special symbols in the feeds, and as for now cannot be helped.

Also, some feeds have feeds where one headline can be regarded as advertising. This is one way to keep the feeds free of charge for external parties like Lynck. We cannot filter out advertisement headlines.

What is Quicksearch?
Quicksearch has a very prominent place on Lynck. It is situated on the middle of your home page (between the feeds) and it provides you with the possibility to search on external sites, preselected by Lynck. Its usage is quite simple: type in what you are looking for, select what you are looking for, and click "Go". For instance, if you look for something on Ebay, you select Ebay and type your keyword in the empty Quicksearch field. Click "Go" and you will be taken to Ebay's site, and show the result on the basis of your keyword. This saves a couple clicks. In your settings page you can change the default Quicksearch on your homepage.

I have to log in every time... I keep getting logged out. How do I solve this?
Lynck remembers who you are and what page is your home page, by putting a cookie on your computer. If you do not delete your cookies and you permit Lynck to put one on your computer (this is standard), there shouldn't be a problem.

I've lost my password. What should I do?
Lynck has sent you an e-mail, when you first signed up. Please check if you can find this e-mail in your mailbox. Lynck cannot resend you your password (your password is encrypted on our server). If you lost Lynck's e-mail, the only solution is to re-register at Lynck. You will lose all your settings.
